Why emotions feel uncontrollable under stress
Purpose: Establish credibility + shared language
Title:
Most emotional reactions don’t start in the thinking part of the brain.
Under stress, the nervous system prioritises survival. That means your body reacts first, and your thinking brain comes online second.
This is why:
  • You say things you don’t mean
  • You react faster than you can think
  • You feel flooded, shut down, or explosive
Nothing is “wrong” with you.
Your system is doing what it was designed to do — just not always in helpful ways.
Emotional mastery starts with understanding this, not fighting it.
👉 Question for you:
When you’re under stress, do you notice yourself reacting, shutting down, or getting overwhelmed?
(There’s no right answer — awareness is the first step.)
