Why You Need to Build a Business, Not Just Buy Courses
I got stuck in the course buying cycle, just one more to make myself be successful. Buying courses can feel like progress. You click “enroll,” download the PDFs, maybe watch a few modules… and it feels like you’re moving forward. But ...
Courses don’t build our business. We have to execute. I bump into so many unfocused, idea-driven people in this e-commerce, fast-paced solopreneur world. Let's help each other drill down and focus on whate matters and what works.
Learning ≠ Earning, and we don’t make money watching videos. We make money when we take those ideas and turn them into products, offers, and sales.
  • The focus on “Sell, Sell, Sell,” I discovered that too many courses focus on selling the next strategy, instead of teaching you how to apply what you already know to build a foundation in your business. That’s how I ended up with 20 logins and zero sales. I have so many logins I can't keep up.
  • Skill without action is killing our businesses: You can have all the frameworks in the world, but if we are not publishing, posting, building, testing, or selling, the company doesn’t grow. If you spend your time doing courses instead of doing the real work, there is no time left to build your business.
What we can do instead
  1. Pick ONE model (ecom, coaching, digital products, etc.) and after doing due diligence, commit to one class at a time.
  2. Don't impulse buy classes that are only $7 today... Remember, they will still be $7 tomorrow because that person is also stuck in the same sell-sell-sell cycle we are.
  3. When you commit to buying it, FINISH it.
  4. Implement.
  5. While building out assets, file for an EIN, get a real email address, a real phone number, and a business address—file for business licenses and state taxes. Find out how you stay compliant. Fill in all those pieces of information that your website, Shopify store, or Etsy store asks for.
  6. Create solid content and bundle it with solid products. Things that actually make sales while you sleep. Things that you know you stand behind.
  7. Use courses as fuel, not crutches. Take what’s useful, leave the fluff, and get back to work.
Courses are tools. But if all you do is collect tools, you’ll stay stuck in the garage. If you want a real business, you’ve got to build, launch, sell, repeat.
What’s one course you’ve taken that actually pushed you to build, not just learn? What course are you considering? What courses do you want to know about?
