What to Pack for Europe: Stylish Travel Essentials That Help You Blend In
Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you buy something through them—at no extra cost to you. I only recommend things I’ve actually used and loved, usually while dragging a suitcase through a European train station.
When I’m traveling in Europe, I want to look like I belong—or at least not like someone who just got off a cruise and is about to ask where the Starbucks is.
These are the things from Amazon I actually pack and wear. They have all been tested by me on planes, trains, cobblestone streets, and at least three boulangeries.
And yes, every item here helps me blend in a bit more and makes travel way more comfortable.
Let’s start with the MVPs…
Kindles: All of Them
I travel with my Kindle Paperwhite, but I also own the Colorsoft and the mini one because I have a problem and I’m not sorry. Whether I’m on a flight or sitting in a café pretending to journal while actually reading spicy novels, one of these is always in my bag.
Kindle Paperwhite (glare-free display and weeks of battery life)
Kindle Colorsoft (everything you love about the Paperwhite, but with a color display)
Babyass Kindle (lightest and most compact, and most-likely to be thrown in my bag)
The Cardigan That Makes Me Feel Like a Parisian Aunt
A simple v-neck cardigan is basically the French woman’s version of a hoodie—chic, effortless, and perfect for layering. I throw it over a tank dress or pair it with jeans and a scarf and suddenly I’m sipping wine and judging people in the best way. I have this in brown, black, cream, green, and burgundy.
This Square-Neck Jersey Dress
Stretchy. Flattering. Doesn’t wrinkle. Looks cute with sneakers or sandals or boots. Basically the dress version of a croissant: soft, versatile, and always a good idea.
The Scarf That Screams “Oui”
Is it even legal to be in France without at least one scarf? This one is light enough to wear all day, adds instant polish to any outfit, and makes me feel like I understand art. 100% mulberry silk.
My Secret Weapon for Long Flights: This Infinity Neck Pillow
It doesn’t look like a travel pillow. It doesn’t feel like a travel pillow. But it saves your neck (literally) and rolls up nicely. I never travel without it now. Great in chilly weather too.
The Curly Hair Product I Don’t Leave the Country Without
Traveling with curls is a gamble. I keep this with me no matter what country I’m in so I don’t have to risk buying some mystery mousse in a foreign pharmacy.
S'well Water Bottle (Because Hydration Is Hot)
It keeps water cold for hours, doesn’t leak in my bag, and looks chic on café tables. Also saves me from overpaying for water at every train station.
Supergas: The “I’m Not a Tourist, I Just Have Good Taste” Shoe
These are comfy enough for full travel days, neutral enough to go with everything, and stylish enough that locals don’t side-eye your footwear. I’ve walked entire cities in these and lived to tell the tale. Comes in SO MANY colors. I have a pair in white and a pair in black.
Baggu Crossbody Tote
I’ve taken this all over Europe—it’s lightweight, holds more than it should, and works for the plane, the market, and everything in between. Bonus: It doesn’t scream “money belt.”
A Camera Strap That Looks More Chic Than Tourist
You know the one that came with your camera? Yeah, leave that at home. I use a minimalist climbing rope strap that doesn’t scream “I’m carrying expensive electronics!” It’s way more comfortable and helps me blend in, whether I’m snapping café photos or pretending to be a moody film director on a cobblestone street.
Euro Plug Adapters That Don’t Suck
Do not wait until the airport to buy these. These ones work, don’t fall out of the wall, and charge everything I need that comes with its own voltage adapter—laptop, Kindle, phone, existential dread...
If you're planning a trip and want to feel a little less like a tourist (and a little more like someone who’s done this before), these are the things I bring every time. Everything here helps me stay comfortable and feel a bit more put-together.
Have any travel must-haves of your own? Let me know—I’m always looking for an excuse to try something new (and let’s be honest... add to cart).
