The day is busy and bustling. But long waits between customers allow for discussion and debate.
"This one sees the benefits but that not how we doing business."
Precious yowls in protest.
"Your points sound and reasonable but un-doable. It's unknown what appears next and exchange is already made. Wish cannot appear before payment."
Precious grumbles, flapping his wings in frustration with his tail lashing violently.
"Easy, calm yourself, Precious," this one gently lifts his chin so his eyes see hers. "We doing well fine and all has purpose. Even business method. You see. I promise."
Precious quirks head at more direct reference of self but grunts and starts looking at the other more permanent and well-stocked stalls of the market. He mewls at a merchant of glimmering tools, knives, pots, and other useful household wares.
"Not having the inventory, requires a purchase before being able to sell and not our merchandise."
Precious snorts and whips his head about before chirping toward the baker's stall.
"Not having oven or ingredients, or coveted family recipes, for delicious quality. Also needing to be constantly fresh and defended from rats. All that we require we have."
He reluctantly eyes the farmer's stall lowering his head and mumbles in deeper tone.
"No worries, Precious. No garden, no fields, nor orchard for supply. Not requiring hours of sunlight labor and defense from pests and varmints."
The butcher stall catches his eye and he immediately perks, chirping excitedly.
This one trying so hard not to laugh as Precious doing his best, "You think if all of that ours, we sell any of it?"
Precious looks again and clearly yearns for bite. His teeth chewing the air. His grunt is disappointed.
"Hey," this one sits on crate, gently caressing his face and stroking him, "Maybe we not have much, but what we have enough. This one is yours always, and we have each other. Precious greater than any other."
Precious snorts at empty satchel defiantly.
"Funny. May not seem like fruitful livelihood, but is a duty this one can't thoughtlessly toss away. Please don't ask this one to choose now. Without it, how would this one provide for you? And this one couldn't be without you. Life has never been so full or vibrant. This one be emptier than bag which would be like stone."
Precious steps on lap and nuzzles under chin. This one touched by gesture and understanding.
But he continues to scan the crowd spotting the lovely new cloaks of BloomMother and Miriath. So well suited and darling. He yowls and stands in interest.
"We not have material and while this one has some skill with stitching and not enough to-"
Precious leaps off crate and dashes into Market.
"PRECIOUS!"
This one snatches satchel and abandons crate in pursuit.
He has gone into crowd beyond sight. This one is consumed in panic but rushes forward. Her head jerks this way and that scanning for him desperately. Just before dread overwhelms her she feels tug in her heart and follows after it.
Precious is sat at base of fabric merchant. Yowling and clawing at poor confused man. This one smiles as the concepts come to her.
"Good man and fellow merchant, Precious has proposal for you. This one will translate."

It was a new day. Most handsome Precious sauntered proudly around the market and village as if in a one-wyrmling parade. Flamboyantly displaying an elegant scarlet cloak quickly and masterfully crafted and beautifully hemmed by the tailor. Precious stretched his wings, and then his front claws and yowled pleasantly and happily to the crowd nearby to draw their attention. His gorgeous black scales were the perfect canvas to show the detail and make of the fabric just how wonderful it was for any young dragon to wear.
In the next hour, he was wearing a sapphire poncho showing how much he liked it and how easily he could dash in it zipping and careening through the locals.
Then, an emerald scarf, a golden hat, a teal wrap, bronze cape, a maroon tunic, a multicolored sweater of orange and onyx, a striped ascot, and a white bowtie. Each one set and displayed on him perfectly. Precious spun and somersaulted, flapped, danced and working on his flipping, allowing the crowd to imagine how their little dragons would look in a similar design. He led the entertained customers to the tailors and clothing merchants, accepting tips in a fitted satchel just for him.
This one watched from her crate keeping a sharp eye on him as they worked. Precious wanted to meet with the jewelers and blacksmith to showcase potential collars, pendants, and other accessories befitting beloved dragons. And in time to prepare for sacred celebrations and the greatly anticipated gift exchanges.
This one couldn't help but whisper to herself, "So proud."
