Healing Isn’t Always Linear
One thing I’ve had to relearn during my healing journey is that progress doesn’t disappear just because I have a hard day.
For a long time, I thought healing meant eventually reaching a point where nothing affected me anymore. No setbacks, no emotional moments, no bad days, no triggers, no exhaustion. And whenever I struggled again, I immediately felt like I had somehow failed or gone backward.
But honestly, healing just doesn’t work that way.
Sometimes you grow tremendously and still have days where you feel tired, emotional, anxious, overwhelmed, or discouraged. That doesn’t erase the progress you’ve made—it just means you’re human.
I’ve also had to relearn that healing takes patience. Real healing usually happens slowly and quietly over time, not all at once in one dramatic breakthrough moment.
And if I’m being honest, I think one of the hardest parts has been learning to stop being so hard on myself during the process.
Lately I’ve been trying to remind myself that growth can still be happening even when it feels slow. The fact that I handle things differently now, think differently, recover faster, or give myself more grace than I used to—that’s healing too.
And honestly? I think one of the healthiest things we can realize is that healing isn’t about becoming a perfect person who never struggles again. It’s about becoming someone who knows how to move through life with more peace, self-awareness, grace, and trust in God along the way.
Let's take a moment to think about this today: What’s something you’ve had to relearn during your healing journey?
