*A Sincere Struggle for Reform and Justice*
*Imam Husayn (ʿAlayhis-Salām):*
*“O Allah! Surely You know that whatever we did was not a competition to gain worldly positions, nor was it for the worthless attractions of this world. Rather, it was to manifest the signs of Your religion, to bring reform to Your lands, so that the oppressed among Your servants may feel secure, and so that Your laws, traditions, and commands may be acted upon.”*

This profound statement of Imam Husayn (A.S.) summarizes the true purpose behind his movement and sacrifice. It teaches several timeless lessons:
1. Purity of Intention (Ikhlāṣ)
The Imam begins by calling Allah as a witness to his sincerity. He declares that his struggle was not motivated by political ambition, personal fame, wealth, power, or status.
True servants of Allah act for His pleasure alone, regardless of whether they gain worldly success or face hardship.
2. Leadership is a Trust, Not a Privilege
The Imam rejects the pursuit of authority for personal gain. In Islam, leadership is a responsibility entrusted by Allah and must be used to establish justice and protect people.
Many seek power to rule over others, but the righteous seek responsibility only to serve Allah and His creation.
3. Reviving the Signs of Religion
The phrase “to manifest the signs of Your religion” refers to preserving and reviving the teachings of Islam whenever they become neglected, distorted, or9 forgotten.
Imam Husayn (A.S.) stood against falsehood because silence would have allowed corruption to be mistaken for religion.
4. Establishing Reform
The Imam describes his mission as iṣlāḥ (reform). Genuine reform is not rebellion for personal interests; rather, it is restoring society to justice, morality, truth, and obedience to Allah.
His objective was to heal the spiritual and moral corruption that had spread within the Muslim community.
5. Protecting the Oppressed
A hallmark of divine leadership is concern for the vulnerable.
The Imam Husayn (A.S.) desired a society where the oppressed, weak, and marginalized could live without fear. Justice is not measured by how the powerful are treated, but by how the weak are protected.
6. Upholding Divine Law
The final goal mentioned by the Imam is the implementation of Allah's commands, obligations, and Prophetic traditions.
A believer's mission is not merely to oppose wrongdoing but also to establish righteousness and obedience to Allah.
Practical Lessons for Us
Examine your intentions before every action.
Seek service rather than status.
Speak against injustice with wisdom and courage.
Support and defend the oppressed.
Revive Islamic teachings through knowledge and good character.
Work for reform beginning with your own heart, family, and community.
The life of Imam Husayn (A.S.) teaches that success is not measured by worldly victory but by faithfulness to Allah's truth.
Qur’anic Connection;
Allah Commands Justice and Excellence
Surah An-Naḥl (16:90)
"Indeed, Allah commands justice, excellence, and giving to relatives, and He forbids immorality, wrongdoing, and oppression. He instructs you that you may take heed."
This verse reflects the very objective of Imam Husayn's movement: establishing justice and removing oppression.
Reform According to One's Ability
Surah Hūd (11:88)
"I desire nothing but reform as much as I am able. And my success is only through Allah."
The mission of Prophet Shuʿayb (A.S.) mirrors the mission described by Imam Husayn (A.S.): sincere reform solely for Allah's sake.
Standing Firm for Justice
Surah An-Nisāʾ (4:135)
"O believers! Stand firm for justice as witnesses for Allah..."
Imam Husayn (A.S.) embodied this Qur'anic command by standing for truth despite immense personal sacrifice.
Duʿāʾ
O Allah, make all our deeds sincerely for Your Noble Countenance. Purify our intentions from showing off and attachment to worldly gains. Make us among those who support truth and justice, defend the oppressed, and strive for reform among Your servants. O Allah, grant us steadfastness upon Your religion and loyalty to Your guidance, and gather us in the company of Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon them all). Āmīn.
O Allah, send Your blessings upon Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad, hasten their relief, make us among their sincere supporters and followers, and grant us the honour of serving their cause.
Āmīn Yā Rabb al-ʿĀlamīn.
