In Loving Memory
Is there someone you remember in a special way? Let's make some space here so we can honor their memories.
I'm bringing the memories of three important women to this space.
First, I'm remembering Grandma Paulina. She was such a model of death positivity when she was helping to raise me: she brought me with her to the cemetery to place flowers, pray, and tell stories. She showed me how beautiful it could be to tend to the dead.
Then, I'm remembering Great Aunt Mimi. Mimi would bring me to the cemetery, too, and demonstrated what it meant to give some thought to the kinds of arrangements you want for yourself. Her transitioning out of this life catalyzed my finding my purpose, and I'll always to be grateful to her for being a part of that.
Also, I'm remembering Jessica Mitford, author of American Way of Death Revisited, a book that squeezed my mind grapes at age 15 and set the trajectory for my entire professional life. May her work continue to shape how we as professionals meet the needs of those navigating loss as they trust us with that sacred duty.
Who are you remembering today? Tell us in the comments; may their memories bring comfort. ❤️
