Training and Physical Fitness
I train to carry my cross — not my ego.”
Like a lot of veterans, whether from the military, law enforcement, or just the school of hard knocks, I sometimes feel like my body hit the “expiration date” way earlier than my driver’s license says it should.
I remind my kids all the time: I don’t work out because I enjoy it. No, I’m out there exercising so I can survive… and so I can keep serving. Honestly, most days I feel like the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz. If I sit still too long, I don’t relax, I seize up. Give me a few idle minutes, and suddenly I’m one stiff hinge away from needing someone to show up with an oil can just to get me moving again.
How about you? Why do you exercise? Do you love it, or is it out of necessity? How do you stay motivated?
