When Perception Meets Faith — Hume & Hebrews
David Hume taught that every thought we have comes from what we’ve already seen, touched, or felt.
In his view, the mind is just a mirror reflecting impressions of the world, never creating anything truly new.
But Scripture tells us something higher:
“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1
Hume’s logic stops at the senses.
Faith begins where the senses end.
We don’t deny reason we redeem it.
Because the Spirit doesn’t destroy the intellect; He enlightens it.
As believers, our calling isn’t to fear philosophy it’s to understand it, so we can answer it with clarity, grace, and power.
💭 Reflection:
1️⃣ What shapes your beliefs most experience, or revelation?
2️⃣ How do you balance reason and faith in your daily walk?
3️⃣ Can faith and philosophy strengthen each other when guided by truth?
🪞 “Hume showed where reason ends. Christ showed where truth begins.”
