What would help you make choreographing easier?
This past weekend I went to Florida to do a performance with my bro Ant_Boun (who is also beta testing the CyphrCam Tool)
He's an incredible human being and movement artist who owned a studio, and taught hundreds of students over the years on the East Coast, and I'm blessed to call him my friend.
He recently did a 30-Days-Of-Counts challenge where he made choreo everyday for 30 days.
We had some great chats on the plane about problems that choreographers have in the creative process.
From it, I realized what tools I can build to make the choreographic process easier.
Here’s 4 features I'm thinking about:
  1. Auto-count generator
  • displays the counts over your video
  • In theory, this would let you record a choreography or freestyle and instantly help you know what your counts are. Mostly for teaching purposes, and the video can be shared with students for practice.
2. Invisible Countdown Sounds
  • Putting a sound over the start point of a song that preps you for when you want to begin dancing, when exporting you wont hear the sound. For the edge case when a song has silence.
3. PIP mode (picture in picture)
  • Where you can review your dance in a facetime style format, live react and dictate notes on your dance to revisit later (part of movement journaling feature)
4. Progressive Choreo Tool
  • Record movement on a loop and in sections
  • Progressively build movement ideas in sequence
  • View live playback of your progress so far, note where you're at, and continue building your ideas
And more..
For choreographers in the group,
Is there anything that would help make your creative process with choreo easier?
  • What's something you repeatedly do, that you wish could be automated
  • What's something annoying in the creative process, that you wish was easier
  • What tool did you wish you had, to help make your creative process smoother
Let me know in the comments, and I'll see if I can make tools to streamline 👇🏻
P.S. As a dance with a background in choreography & freestyle, I've always loved choreography. I'd take one way bus tickets to LA to take class at Offstage, Snowglobe, Movement Lifestyle, Etc.. But I always found it hard to make choreo myself. (I've done it for performance and gigs, but not for the art, if that makes sense) So maybe these ideas can also help bridge the freestyle and choreo worlds together 🤔
