The Championship Mindset:
What World Champion Boxing Teaches Us About Creative Property Investment

Last week, I had the privilege of meeting Billy Schwer at the Money Makers Summit in Peterborough.
For those unfamiliar with his name, here are the facts:
British champion.
Commonwealth champion.
European champion.
And the World champion.
138 professional fights under his belt !
But what struck me most wasn't his record.
It was the story he shared — and the lesson hidden inside it.
Three More Minutes
Billy's third attempt at the world title was against Colin Dunn at Wembley.
They knew each other well — they'd sparred countless rounds together.
Billy was confident he had the beating of him.
It was a war.
Twelve brutal rounds.
Voted Contest of the Year.
"Three more minutes and the title's yours."— Gentleman Jack (Jack Lindsay), Billy Schwer's trainer said to him just before the last round !
He believed him.
The bell rang.
He fought those final three minutes on pure heart, pure instinct, pure will.
And in those final moments, as he stood in the centre of the ring awaiting the judges' decision, he understood something that cannot be taught in a textbook.
Victory — and the pursuit of it — lives entirely in the mind before it ever lives in reality.
The paarallel nobody talks about!
After four years of active property investment and trading , with a portfolio spanning Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, County Durham, and East London — I can tell you this with certainty:
The principles that produce champions in the ring are the exact same principles that produce exceptional results in creative property investment.
Most investors have access to the same information.
They can read about Lease Options — a strategy that allows you to control a property without deposit or very little money or without mortgage ...
Generate income, and secure the right to purchase at a fixed price at the end of the term!
They can study Assisted Sales — a creative approach where you help a motivated vendor achieve a sale, often adding value through refurbishment or restructuring, while generating a profit for yourself.
The information is available.
So why do so few investors actually execute?
Because knowledge without the right mindset and action 🎬 does not mean much !
It sits on the shelf, unused.
The Four Pillars of a Championship Property Mindset
1. The right #mindset, Billy didn't step into that ring at Wembley hoping for the best.
He went in believing — with full conviction — that the title was already his to claim.
In property, investors who succeed are those who have resolved, internally, that they will find a way.
Not if conditions are perfect.
Not when the market turns.
Now.
2. Relentless preparation Billy and Colin Dunn had sparred, countless rounds before they ever fought for the world title.
Billy didn't arrive unprepared — he arrived ready.
Creative property investing demands the same.
You must understand the strategies, the legalities, the deal structures, and the numbers before you sit across the table from a motivated vendor.
3. Knowledge that converts to action.
There is a difference between knowing and doing.
The most successful investors I work with in our community are those who pair their education with decisive action.
They analyse the deal, they structure it creatively, and they move.
4. Resilience in the final round.
Not every deal closes first time.
Not every negotiation goes smoothly.
In those moments — when it would be easy to walk away — the investors who win are those who hold their nerve, revisit the strategy, and find another way through.
That is the final round.
That is where the title is decided.
