📖 Read: Matthew 5:43–48; Luke 6:27–36
Jesus says:
“Love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute you.”
Luke records several actions alongside that command:
Love your enemies.
Do good to those who hate you.
Bless those who curse you.
Pray for those who mistreat you.
What does this passage show me about love?
Love is not reserved for people who love us back.
Jesus calls us to respond to hostility without becoming hostile ourselves. Love can pray, bless, and do good even when the other person has not earned it.
What does this show me love is not?
Love is not simply returning the treatment we receive.
Jesus says that loving only those who love us is something even sinners do. The love He describes goes beyond reciprocity.
Did I notice anything new?
Read the passages again and notice which command feels most difficult: love, do good, bless, or pray.
Write down what the text says before deciding what it requires of you today.
