A call worth sharing 🔧
Just wrapped an hour on the phone with a member out of Detroit who landed his first commercial contract — installing handrails for an apartment project, working as a sub to the GC and sourcing materials directly from the manufacturer. Big step up from residential.
The challenge: the work is off aerial lifts, so the GC required a full compliance package before he could mobilize. We got him set up with:
  • A written safety program
  • Training course, documentation and logs for each worker
  • A full compliance guide covering union safety requirements and state OSHA
That's the difference between winning the bid and actually being cleared to do the work — and it's exactly the gate that stops most contractors from climbing into commercial.
He was also nervous about staffing the job in time. So we shared a few approaches to finding devoted labor that don't just fill seats — they get your name out in the community and give back to it at the same time. The kind of thing where sourcing your crew builds your local reputation instead of just draining your time. It's a win for you, a win for the workers, and a win for the community all at once.
He's cleared, staffed, and ready to deliver. Keep building, Chris. 🙌
This is what "get cleared, then scale" looks like in real life. If you're staring down your first commercial contract and not sure what documentation you need — this is the room. Ask.
