Chapter 1: The Lonely Fire
I didn’t choose the fire — the fire chose me.
Growing up, I always felt different. I had a stutter that made speaking in class a battle. The words caught in my throat like they didn’t want to come out, and when they did, kids laughed or rolled their eyes. Teachers dismissed me as slow or lazy, not understanding that my brain was racing with thoughts my mouth couldn’t catch up to.
At home, it wasn’t much easier. My mom often pushed me away, keeping her distance from my inner world. She didn’t take much interest in who I was or what I was going through. That hurt in ways I couldn’t explain. I felt like I was standing right in front of her, but invisible.
The only one who really seemed to see me was my sister. She became my rock, the one person who understood me when the world seemed too harsh. She listened when no one else did. She accepted me when everyone else judged. Without her, I don’t know how I would have made it through those years.
But even with her support, I felt alone most of the time — carrying a weight I didn’t have the words to explain. I learned early how to keep my pain inside, because speaking up never seemed to change anything. To keep the peace, I stayed silent.
Yet deep inside, there was something else. A spark. Even when I felt invisible, something in me refused to go out. I didn’t know it then, but the very fire that would one day awaken my purpose was already burning quietly in the dark.
✍️ Reflection
Take some time to sit with these questions. Write your answers in a journal, on your phone, or even just think them through slowly.
  1. When was the first time in your life that you felt unseen or misunderstood?
  2. Who was your “rock” in that season? If you didn’t have one, what did you lean on to get through?
  3. What strength do you think those early struggles planted in you?
🕯️ Ritual: The Fire Candle
You don’t need anything fancy — just a candle and a few quiet minutes.
  1. Sit with a candle and light it.
  2. Place your hand over your heart.
  3. As you breathe, look at the flame and repeat to yourself: “Even unseen, my fire still burned. It always will.”
  4. Sit with the flame for a few moments, imagining it reflecting the fire inside you that never goes out.
🌟 Closing Affirmation
My fire is never extinguished, only hidden until the time is right.
