Building materials coarse continued..
Here is the 5000 words I typed out for building materials coarse not knowing it only allowed 500 words. Ughhh. Haha. So this is the list of materials. Sorry in advance again for not knowing exactly how to navigate this skool app yet but I really hope this group reaches the animal lovers who are as passionate about helping strays as I am! Thank you to eveyone who even takes the time to read this or read the intro to the group! Even 1 person besides me building condos for these homeless strays makes a difference! I hope to have people all over America and farther helping with this one day.
In this coarse I'm going to tell you all what exactly we all need to build these little guys a nice place they can call home. In reality though as long as your building something that protects them from the elements and that you can easily set up anywhere in your yard. That's all these little guys need to have a fighting chance to survive. There's nothing better then knowing you made a huge difference in weather or not some sweet little animal is going to survive or not thanks to your condo that you made by hand. So let's get to it.
First off your going to need either 2 by 2s that are 6ft in length or 8 ft works too if your building something a little bigger than what I'm proposing.
Or you can use 1 by 1s by 6ft or 8ft.
-Then your going to want to get plywood that's 1/2in thick and about 4ft by 4ft to start. Make sure it's 1/2 thick or more so that it's thick enough to hold the animals weight and withstand the wind and or elements it may endure.
-Measuring tapes and pencils! Lots of both of these. Specially pencils. They always tend to roll away when you need them most. :)
- If you want to install a small camera in it to see who comes into your little condo and watch your furry friend, your more then welcome to! Just be sure to post the cutiest moments with all of us in the group!
-Your going to want to get a box of screws or nails about an 1 in long. 2in is fine but you don't want the screw or nail to go in crooked and be sticking out an have the animal hurt itself by stepping on it or anything so the shorter the better but long enough that when you put the pieces up together and screw them down it grips enough of each piece to hold it together sturdy. Which means 1/2in plywood meeting at the corners and having to screw it together is 1in total so try to get screws a little longer then 1in. Bout 1"1/4in is fine, 1"1/2in if you want to be certain it'll hold up.
- Also means you will need a screw gun or a hammer if you go with nails.
-Another piece of equipment you'll need will be a table saw or a sawzaw or a jigsaw in order to cut the lumber and plywood to size. If we get enough people together I'm sure we will have people who have the needed tools an we can break off into groups so everyone had the tools they need to build multiple condos at a time per group. We will see how the group grows. I of coarse have the tools needed to build these and am more then willing to come to you if you want to build some with me for your house or neighborhood, just shoot me a dm and we will get that arranged.
- You will also need to find the dog door /cat door flappers. So we can install that for the door on one side of the condo. You can always find them at the arc or thrift stores. If you don't have the money to get them from pets mart like myself, so I always go to the arc and never have a hard time finding one or more every arc I go to.
- While your there try to find 2 pet food bowls for food and water or if you want to go the route of the hamster water bottle instead so there's less risk of a mess that's fine too just know not all cats or furry friends will know what it is or how to use it. So take that into consideration when choosing what to use in your condo.
- Also going to need to find a bed small enough to fit but big enough to hold a cat or two (may not just be 1 staying in there if the weather is really bad or if your furry friend has it's own friend or family with it)
- Heater pad. (Find at arc also)
- Ice packs or small fan (also at the arc)
- Cat food. (Going to want to get from pets mart or Walmart or your choice of store but the arc or thrift store won't have animal food so you'll have to make a separate trip for that)
- If you want to put a rain and weather resistance sheathing on the outside of the condo your more then welcome to! I think that's a great idea if you have it laying around or can afford to do so!
- Also weather resistant caulking incase your corners don't line up as tight as you wish. (This way you can caulk the edges and corners and know that no water or wind or anything will get into it)
- If I'm forgetting anything please feel free to let me know or just add it below in the comments for everyone! Thanks and let's go make some furry friend a home! Much love!
