Time is our most valuable asset
I cared for my dad through his journey with Alzheimer’s a path filled with heartbreak, deep love, exhaustion, and unexpected moments of grace. It taught me that time is our most valuable resource, and that every day even the hardest ones matter because there will be time when they won't be there with you anymore. My Dad will have said goodbye 3 years ago this October.
Connection during this time of caring for him was key for me. I couldn't relate to many in my life during this time and found the importance where others could not understand what I was going through as well as my loved one so I found groups much like this one. It made a big difference because it is important not to be isolated. You must care for you too.
Today, I find myself connected with many others walking this same road. Whether you're a full-time caregiver, supporting someone from a distance, or just starting to notice changes in a loved one, you're not alone.
Let’s take each day as if it were our last with compassion, and courage.
Make every memory count! And do not forget to document your story.
I have plenty of memories that I can reference back because of active journaling and taking lots of pics.
