Good afternoon ladies & gentlemen!
It’s a hot day. We have several serious forest fires burning throughout our province on the island portion and in Labrador too.
Temperatures are right around 30 degrees Celsius perhaps a little higher and just enough wind to cause problems for the firefighters but not enough wind to keep our body temperatures down low.
So in response to Mother Natures fiery temperamental mood we get our own dogs out at 5am. Stewart at 0630-0730; Nyx 0735-0830 and the Cockapoos from 0900-1100. All dogs activity for the day is done by 11am and I’m beat.
Here today I have a special privilege of introducing you to Nyx! And Oh Lordy is she ever sweet. She is actually living with Stewart for a week while her owners are overseas. Nyx is the type of dog that loves to be outdoors as often and for as long as possible. However she’s a little nervous about new activities and such. So it’s a little overwhelming for her to be left at someones house (not a stranger to her) for a week and then we decided to harness her up and left for the wilderness with her to see if we could get her wind down a little bit.
Suffice to say for her first time ever I. An activity harness and running in a Canicross setup really seemed to cheer her up. She was quite slow and each time she would burst forward a little bit and I would encourage her it was okay to pull, she would back off until the tension dropped out of the line. BUT she ran forward, body language is positive and she was quite relaxed and content when driving back home after the run.
