Scripture:
“The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” — Luke 6:45 (ESV)
Reflection
Life will shake you—it’s not a matter of if but when. Trials, disappointments, sudden changes, or even small frustrations act like jolts to your soul. And when you’re shaken, whatever is inside of you spills out.
If your heart is filled with bitterness, that’s what will come pouring out. If it’s full of fear, that will overflow. But if your heart is rooted in Christ, filled with His Word, His Spirit, and His peace, then even under pressure, what spills out will look like Him—patience in the middle of chaos, grace toward those who hurt you, hope when others are sinking in despair.
That’s why it matters what you’re carrying before the shaking comes. You can’t wait until the storm hits to prepare; you fill your cup daily with the presence of God so that when life tips you, what overflows brings life and light to others.
Application Questions
- What “spills out” of me when I’m stressed or pressed?
- What do my reactions reveal about what I’ve been carrying inside?
- How can I be more intentional about filling myself with God’s Word and presence each day?
Prayer
Lord, I know life will shake me, and I don’t want anger, fear, or bitterness to spill out. Fill me with Your Spirit. Pour into me love, patience, peace, and strength so that when the pressure comes, others see You in me. Teach me to guard my heart, because everything I am flows from it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
