Do It Scared
(A tribute to the season of courage) Ansley Moxley
Scripture Reading
  • “Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9
  • “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” — Psalm 56:3
Reflection
Fear is not proof of failure — it is proof that the task matters. If Joshua had no fear, God would not have commanded him to be courageous. If Esther felt no trembling, her “If I perish, I perish” would have carried no weight. Faith is not about waiting until fear disappears, but about obeying God while fear is still present.
Jesus never said, “Do it when you’re not scared.” He said, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid” (Matthew 14:27). That was right before Peter stepped out of the boat. His faith didn’t begin when the waves calmed — it began when he did it scared.
The lesson is simple: You don’t need to feel fearless to be faithful. You need only enough courage to take the next step. God meets you there.
Reflection Questions
  1. What step of faith are you hesitating to take because of fear?
  2. How have you seen God show up in times you acted even while scared?
  3. What promise of God can you hold onto the next time you face trembling obedience?
Prayer
Lord, I confess that fear often paralyzes me. Yet You remind me that You are with me wherever I go. Give me courage to obey even when I don’t feel ready, steady my heart when I’m afraid, and help me trust that Your presence is greater than my fear. In Jesus’ name, amen.
