It's been a rollercoaster of emotions this week. This morning, I was so overwhelmed that all I could do was cry. I don't like getting to that place because it reminds me of my mom and aunts being in heaven. It also takes me back to being a little girl, crying while the people who were physically present were emotionally absent. No one was there to console me.
I've been here before, but this time, something was different. I knew not to let the pressure of my emotions dictate the words coming out of my mouth. I refused to speak out of frustration, loneliness, and the hopelessness trying to overtake me. All I could whisper was, "Jesus, Jesus, help me. I need help."
Within a minute, I wiped my tears and remembered something powerful: I am the same girl who made it through every one of those moments. And suddenly, I owned my resilience.
Sometimes, the victory isn't in never feeling overwhelmed. It's in recognizing who you are in the middle of it and refusing to let a moment of pain define you. I am no longer that little girl without comfort. I know where my help comes from, and I am learning to respond from that place.
Scripture: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1 (KJV)
Reflective Question: When overwhelming emotions rise, do you allow them to dictate your words and define your identity, or do you remember who you are and where your help comes from?
