Rebound Relationships
Don’t do it. It was the biggest mistake I’ve ever made, and it cost me more than I can explain. If I could go back in time, I would’ve stopped myself and forced myself to stay single—no texting, no dating, no distractions—for a long period of time.
When you get out of a relationship, you need time to heal and recover the parts of yourself that were lost. You need to reach a place where your relationship with God is solid, and where you are genuinely okay being alone. Being so solid in yourself and your relationship with God that you could be ok being single the rest of your life.
It is lonely—don’t get me wrong. It will be hard. You’ll see someone who looks like a complete green flag walk by, and temptation will start eating at you. But you don’t decide when you’re healed. God does. Even if the next person is “perfect,” it won’t matter if you’re still carrying wounds from the last relationship. Unhealed attachment will eventually surface—and it can ruin something good.
That’s why I’m choosing to stay single and 100% celibate for at least a year before even thinking about dating or pursuing a new partner.
First, it’s out of respect for the past relationship. You honor the loss by allowing yourself to grieve it fully. If it meant anything to you, you wouldn’t rush into something new—because how you move on reflects how deeply you loved.
Being single doesn’t mean you act single. It doesn’t mean hooking up with strangers, clubbing every weekend, or entertaining 20 different people.
Being single means sitting with your pain, developing yourself, and drawing as close to God as possible.
God bless.
