New Student Setup Checklist (Do This FIRST)
If you want to get paid like a real business, you have to *set up like a real business*. Use this checklist and knock it out step-by-step.
### 1) Form Your LLC (or business structure)
- Choose your business name (make sure it’s available in your state)
- File your LLC with your state
- Save your approved Articles/Certificate (you’ll need it for everything else)
### 2) Get Your EIN (IRS)
- Apply for your EIN (Employer Identification Number)
- Save your EIN confirmation letter (PDF)
### 3) Get Your D-U-N-S Number (Business Credit Profile)
- Apply for your **Dun & Bradstreet D-U-N-S Number**
- Make sure your business name + address match your LLC filing exactly
### 4) Create Your NAV Account (Business Credit Monitoring)
- Set up your NAV account
- Confirm your business info is accurate
- Start tracking what lenders and vendors will see
### 5) Set Up a Virtual Business Address (Not Your Home Address)
- Get a virtual address that can receive mail (not a PO Box)
- Update that address across:
- LLC filing (if needed)
- EIN profile (if applicable)
- Bank account
- NAV / D&B profiles
### 6) Get Your Business Listed on 411 (Directory Listing)
- Set up your business phone listing so you look legitimate when people search you
- Your business name, address, and phone must match what you used everywhere else
### 7) Get an 800 Number (Business Phone Line)
- Set up a dedicated business number (preferably toll-free)
- Record a professional voicemail greeting
- Use this number on ALL marketing materials
