The shadows are getting longer, and the streets are getting colder.
But Diego De LaCruz hasn't been sleeping. It’s been a minute since my last update, but I am deep in the trenches of final edits for The Night Driver, and the pieces of this puzzle are finally locking into place. Writing this thriller has been a journey through the neon-lit underbelly of the city, and Diego’s checker cab has been racking up the miles as we close in on the finish line.
Speaking of miles, there’s nothing quite like the glow of Katz's Deli at 2 AM. Back in the day, that corner of East Houston and Essex was the perfect place to park the cab, grab a hot pastrami on rye—heavy on the mustard, extra pickles—and just watch the city breathe. That exact sleepless, gritty energy is bleeding onto every single page of this manuscript. Stay tuned. The meter is running.
