5 Security must-have's
Here's a solid Bitcoin security framework that is easy to set up
1. Dedicated Email
- Create a new email address used only for your chosen exchange
- Never use this email for anything else. Nothing personally identifiable in the name
- Consider ProtonMail for enhanced security. Gmail or anything will also work
- Enable 2FA on this email account & use a PW manager to set up a strong PW
2. Two-Factor Authentication
- Set up Google Authenticator or Authy
- Never use SMS/text for 2FA
- Back up your 2FA codes securely
- Use 2FA for both your exchange and dedicated email
3. Physical Security Key (buy 2)
- Get a Yubico NFC key
- Register it with your exchange and email
- Keep a backup key in a secure location
- Use it as your primary 2FA when possible
4. Phone Account Protection
- Call your carrier
- Add a port protection password
- Enable all additional security features
- Consider a secure carrier like Efani
5. Password Manager
- Choose a reputable manager (Proton, 1Password, )
- Generate unique passwords for every login
- Never reuse passwords
- Keep your master password secure and backed up
Complete these five steps, and you've eliminated the most common attack vectors that threaten Bitcoin holders. This isn't just theoryโ€”this is the security stack I've used since 2021 without a single breach or loss.
There is a lot more to cover. But master these basics first.
