Family tree of a King - Matthew 1:1-17
This week we begin by reading Matthew 1:1–17 — the genealogy of Jesus.
Before any teaching video is released, we start by reading the text itself.
What to do:
  1. Read Matthew 1:1–17 slowly
  2. Do not skip names
  3. Read it as theology, not as a list
As you read, observe:
  • How is the genealogy structured?
  • Where do patterns repeat?
  • Which names feel unexpected or out of place?
  • Why might Matthew open his Gospel this way?
Questions to consider:
  • What does Matthew want us to understand about Jesus before telling any stories?
  • How does this genealogy connect Jesus to Israel’s history?
  • What kind of Messiah is being introduced here?
You do not need answers yet. Bring your observations and questions.
