Phase Check Prompt
I was in the middle of building out a new idea and kind of brain-dumping everything as it came up. At some point, I paused and asked ChatGPT a simple question:
“What’s the best way to prompt you so I know when to stop and summarize what I’ve built so far?”
In the middle of that conversation, this question came out:
“Is this a phase-complete unit, or do I need one more component before summarizing?”
That one line slowed everything down in a good way. It’s been really helpful for knowing when to stop building and capture what I have before moving on. Once something is phase-complete, I summarize that section and paste it into a doc so the idea doesn’t live only in my head.
If you build fast, this kind of pause can help you:
  • 🧠 catch a clean stopping point
  • ✍️ organize ideas without killing momentum
  • 🗂️ move ideas from your head into a doc while they’re still clear
  • 🚫 avoid one giant, messy brain dump
I attached the full conversation from when this question first sparked in case it helps you see the context or adapt it for your own builds.
Sharing in case this helps someone else who’s building and wants to stay focused while ideas are flying 🚀
