Loneliness 2
“Starvation Theory”
I used to think loneliness was silence—just quiet in a room,
But it’s hunger with a heartbeat… and it howls when it consumes.
Some days it barely whispers, like I skipped a meal or two,
Other days it claws inside me—like it’s tearing straight through.
So when people come around me, I don’t see them—I see food,
Something warm to stop the aching, something real to fill the mood.
But I’ve learned a darker lesson carved in places words can’t reach—
Anything you give in honesty… becomes a weapon in their speech.
So I ration out my presence, I keep distance in my tone,
Talk in fragments, never fully—never let myself be known.
I’ve mastered cold detachment, made withdrawal look like control,
Built a fortress out of silence just to quarantine my soul.
They say strength is being open, they say truth will set you free,
But the truth I learned the hard way… is it chains you quietly.
Because once you let them see you—every fracture, every seam,
They can press on every weakness, turn your truth into a scheme.
So I vanish before it deepens, I go numb before I feel,
Turn connection into distance like a wound I cannot heal.
Call it wisdom, call it damage, call it something I became—
But I’d rather starve in silence than be fed and feel the same.
Still…
There’s a voice I try to bury, one that doesn’t quite agree,
Says the hunger isn’t weakness—just a sign I want to be…
Seen.
Not exposed or left defenseless, not a target, not a game—
Just understood without the pressure of performing or the shame.
So I’m learning—slow and heavy, like a man who’s walked through fire,
You can guard the door to your heart… without locking your empire.
Maybe strength is not in hiding, not in cutting every tie—
Maybe strength is choosing boundaries… and still looking in the eye.
So I won’t give all my story, I won’t show you every wound,
But I won’t the loneliness fill me… to the point of being consumed
