This is a very common situation, but not to worry.
If you have been assigned ESG, sustainability, supplier compliance, or buyer-questionnaire work — but you are still early in the learning curve — do not try to build a full ESG program on day one.
Start with three questions:
- What is the buyer or management asking for right now?
- What policies, records, or evidence already exist?
- What claims can we safely make today without overpromising?
The goal is not perfection.
The goal is to build a simple, truthful, defensible starting point.
If you are new to ESG, start with the Free Supplier Questionnaire Survival Kit. It helps your mind work like a buyers. It will give an idea of the categories so you can see what needs a policy, what needs evidence, and what may need a careful “not yet formalized” answer.
