The TRT conversation nobody in the gym is having
If you believe the internet, testosterone is the answer. More of it = more muscle, more drive, more life. The gorilla is the proof — look at that thing. Massive. Virile. Running on pure T.
Except the gorilla runs on almost no testosterone. A silverback sits around 150 ng/dL. A healthy man sits between 300 and 1,000. Pound for pound, you produce more testosterone than any gorilla alive — your natural levels are already "supraphysiological" by gorilla standards.
Why does this matter? Because I spent 20 years selling both sides of the hormone market. AndroGel — the testosterone replacement. Lupron — the drug that shuts testosterone off. I sold them to doctors. And I never once believed the story either product was selling: that your vitality is a number on a lab report.
Here's what I've learned in a biohacking clinic with 5+ years of athletes and executives walking through the door:
- More T doesn't fix a broken system. The guys chasing supraphysiological levels are usually the ones sleeping 5 hours, eating garbage, and carrying 25%+ body fat. The gear isn't the bypass — the system is the problem, and the gear just papers over it.
- Your body's output is a report card, not a target. Hormones are downstream of fuel, fitness, environment, recovery, and mind. Fix the inputs, and the outputs follow. That's physiology, not opinion.
- The gorilla eats 60 pounds of plants a day and out-muscles every gym in America. Strength and size are built by genetics, mechanics, and training stimulus — not by the hormone story you were sold.
At 57, I've never taken testosterone. My phase angle and biomarkers say the machine is humming. I'm not special — I built it the same way anyone can: the system, not the syringe.
