Verbs used before Gerunds & Infinitives
Quick grammar tip 👇
In English, some verbs are followed by a gerund (verb + ing), and others are followed by an infinitive (to + verb).
There is no rule you can calculate.
You learn them as patterns.
Common verbs + gerund
• enjoy → I enjoy learning English
• avoid → I avoid driving in the rain
• finish → I finished studying late
• mind → I don’t mind waiting
• suggest → She suggested taking a break
Common verbs + infinitive
• want → I want to improve my English
• decide → I decided to study today
• plan → I plan to travel soon
• hope → I hope to speak confidently
• need → I need to practice more
