For weeks, Stacie and I were trying to solve a frustrating problem.

After heavy rains, we would occasionally find water in our finished basement. One clue we kept discovering was that our roof drains and drainage system would repeatedly clog, causing water to back up and overflow during major storms.

We cleared the drains, monitored the gutters, inspected the flower beds, checked grading around the foundation, and thought we had solved it…

But the problem kept returning.

So I started feeding ChatGPT photos, observations, updates, and questions every step of the way.

Together, we worked through the process like detectives:

✅ Analyzed photos from inside and outside the home

✅ Reviewed landscape fabric, mulch depth, and drainage paths

✅ Built a step-by-step action plan

Then came the breakthrough…

We discovered a hose connection had accidentally been left running for days, saturating the flower bed directly outside the area where water was appearing in the basement.

Once we found the source, we removed old landscape fabric, lowered mulch levels near the foundation, improved grading, added fresh topsoil and mulch, and created a cleaner drainage path away from the house.

The result?

🏆 Better drainage

🏆 Better curb appeal

🏆 A cleaner flower bed

🏆 A likely solution to a problem that had been driving us crazy

The lesson?

AI didn’t swing a shovel.

AI didn’t move the mulch.

AI didn’t fix the house.

But it helped us organize the facts, analyze the photos, think through the possibilities, and build a logical plan.

Sometimes the best use of AI isn’t creating content…

It’s helping solve real-world problems.
