The ones that grow off them get referrals on purpose, and the difference is one conversation, not luck.
If you're relying on "word of mouth will happen naturally," here's what's actually missing:
Who you ask. Not everyone who's happy refers people. Ask the patients/clients who've mentioned a specific result unprompted; they're already sold enough to vouch for you, you just haven't given them the opening.
When you ask. Right after a visible win, same rule as reviews, but referrals need a slightly different moment: right after they say something like "I wish I'd found you sooner" or "my friend has the same problem." That's the actual opening, not three months later.
How you make it easy. "Let me know if you know anyone" puts all the work on them and gets ignored. "Do you think [specific friend/family member] might want to talk to us? I can text you something to forward them" removes the thinking and the awkwardness.
Practices with a real referral ask aren't lucky, they just stopped waiting for it to happen on its own.
Which piece is missing for you right now?
