Hey everybody,
I've been silently following this community and Jakob's Youtube channel for two weeks now, after finding out about them while doing my research on starting a software development agency.
I watched the video recording of the Q&A sessions you guys had and I must say - super insightful ! Awesome hearing from guys on different stages of their software agency journey !
I myself am a SWE by trade, been working for 4 years now in fintech mostly on my main job. On the side, I've partnered with friends on creating a cross-platform mobile app and a SaaS in the sports industry.
I feel like I'm in a point in my career where developing a software agency business is the next natural step, but as most of us, I'm having trouble generating leads. I don't think niching down at this point would work, because I can't say I'm a domain expert in any field (I'm most familiar with fintech, but acquiring projects in that field right from the start seems like a long-shot).
I was curious - how did you guys do it in the beginning ? Any tips on getting that first one project ? I was thinking about trying offering my services in online communities in different niches and see where how it goes from there.
Also - when building my initial agency portofolio - do you think it would be ok including those projects I've been working on the side ? I feel like they are quite complex and would be a good way to showcase my skills initially, before acquiring that first project built under the agency.
Sorry for this long post ! 😅
