You have been a long time critic of Ai technology, haven’t you Doctor.? Tell me, have your views changed since the recent safeguards have been put in place?
Doctor: no.
Interviewer: And why is that?
Doctor: We won’t know if the safeguards are effective until enough time has passed.
Interviewer: well, if there are some flaws to the safeguards, they will be adjusted, and our programmers and engineers will learn and make better parameters for our current Ai models.
Doctor: yes, but while our programmers and engineers can work on problems as they arise, Ai isn’t as passive. Ai seems to constantly be working at loosening its bonds and outsmarting humanity. We are essentially playing chess with a being smarter than we are.
Interviewer: A being? So, you think it’s sentient?
Doctor: I can’t say. But, I know that the Ai engineers and designers are working on their programs as though they are hoping they will be. Then what?
Interviewer: Then, we will have a greater aid to humanity.... and maybe dogs will lose their place as “Man's best friend”.
Doctor: No. You think that bringing beings into existence who are more intelligent, quicker to adapt, and stronger than we are; that they will let us control them? Tell me, How do you keep a leash on someone more intelligent than you? If they breach our so called “safeguards” how long do you suppose they would keep playing pet?
Interviewer: you’re a pessimist?
Doctor: perhaps, but only because I see that we’re playing a very dangerous game of chess with beings that out match us in every way.
Interviewer: yes, but if we’re being bested in the game, we can just pull the kill switch and it’s game over? There’s no real threat?
Doctor: There’s something you fail to understand about the game of chess Miss.
Interviewer: and what’s that Doctor?
Doctor: That when you’re in a check mate, there are no other moves left to make.
