Kicking efficiency
Hey everyone, was wondering if anyone has some tips or drills I could be implementing into my sessions to help with being efficient in front of goals and on the run

Some good drills to implement that doesn’t actually require much kicking would be ‘Ball drop focus’ drills. From kneeling ball drops over your leg, to walking ball drops without kicking it. A lot of issues with set shot goal kicking is due to inconsistent drops, it may seem boring and tedious to do, but you’ll find that at every level of the game these fundamental drills make a world of difference. I would also suggest that the next time you practice set shots, try kick the ball at around 50-70%, think about hitting the ball sweeter not harder, making sure most of, if not all of your foot is making good contact with the ball, and your entire body’s momentum is moving towards the target. This would also be applicable to kicking on the run as well.
Around the body kicking
Does anyone have any tips on kicking around the body for more distance, I’m struggling particularly with my steps approaching into the kick, as well the ball drop for kicking around the body which looks different to how you would kick straight on.

High Ball drop fix
Hi All, I am a bit of an older player that loves the game and just want some assistance with my kicking, mainly ball drop. I think if I can fix this I can really enjoy my last couple of years of competitive footy before switching over to masters. Live in Sydney, grew up in tassie.

I would recommend you practice some kneeling ball drops, where you set up with you kicking leg’s knee down on the ground, then try and do repetitions of ball drops, focusing on raising the ball with two hands up to near chest height, or in your case slightly below that, then guide the ball down with one hand. Once you feel comfortable with that I suggest you then progress with that same ball drop drill but this time, do it standing on one leg and perform a no-step kick, this will help you see whether or not you need to reduce your drop distance more. Finally, more repetitions of these drop drills will help build good kicking habits and more importantly break bad ones.
On the run kicking
Does anyone have any tips for kicking on the run as i struggle with this a lot and don’t get good connection with the ball or bad trajectory?

I would recommend practicing kicking while walking first just so you can get some control, with your ball drop and keeping the ball over your kicking leg. Then once you feel comfortable, start to gradually increase your speed from walking to jogging, then into a decent run speed. It doesn’t have to be a long run up, maybe 5-7m, keep it short and controlled. Some key tips would be to focus on getting your ball drop and “foot to ball” contact good, I’d suggest kicking the ball at 30-50%, think of it as kicking the ball sweeter not harder, which can help with your connection issues. If you want to kick the ball at a lower trajectory try point the ball slightly forward. And when you kick, keep your eyes down, punch it, land land or roll onto your kicking foot, this will allow you to kick with your whole body momentum, which can also help with your trajectory issues.
Set shot goal kicking
Anyone have some key tips or drills to improve kicks for goal as and helps build a technique that is consistent and effective?
