Was reading this book yesterday. So I see this happen with a lot of students, their whole life they are told they are: smart, intelligent and all that. Not bad, but indeed this creates a mindset of “this is who I am” and then when they face difficulties or failures they start to self doubt. Therefore, ALWAYS focus on your effort and progress, let things be NOT PERFECT. Reflect on yourself daily: did I put in the effort? If yes, good, be proud. If no, ask yourself: is what I’m doing right now getting me closer or further away from my goals… Book; Originals from Adam Grant

Mindset is such a great book. It seems counterintuitive not to tell you’re kids that they’re ‘smart’ or ‘intelligent’ but this can definitely start a fixed mindset of where if you aren’t ‘great’ at something you’d rather give up than look bad. I’ve definitely suffered from this. I find that trying to detach the emotion from the result can help. We are not our results. They are separate from us. Being more business like about exams and seeing them as a project to work on, rather than a definition of our worth really helps me. P.S. I haven’t read Originals but I’ll put it on my list.
