Burundian Nyumba style build
My family in Burundi sent these photos back to me as reference for their traditional Nyumba (house) style of build. Thatched roofing is preferred. I told them about the Cob style and we shall see what develops in our discussion!

@Quino McWhinney yes, we decided to source a bell tent for the yoga school in Mabayi, because it is high up in the mountains and gets pretty chilly and damp with all the rain. For lower, sunnier places like where my dad lives in Cibitoke, thatched roofing is fine. Back in the olden days, cob or adobe was used more often for traditional Nyumba homes.

Sculpted walls, interior, Nyumba
Here is the interior of a Nyumba East African home structure! Happy New Year and happy building, everyone. That is my dad with a couple of his sisters and their kids, photo taken over the winter holidays in Burundi.

The steam and hot water features are so cool!
Roof beams
Got the roof beams up just in time before the sun set. They went up pretty quick and was pretty easy to do by myself as the joist hangers were already attached to the hub, I could just slide the beams in place and then climb up on the ladder and screw them in.

Your roof looks great, Martin!
Cob oven in LA
Hey y’all, i’m down in LA now visiting the Oven. We built here a few months ago seeing how it’s doing after being rained on. It never received a code concealer so some of the plaster came loose so I just mixed up some plaster with sanding clay and put that on there to screw it out and when it dries will go ahead and put the oil sealer on it’s ideal to have a roof over it though hopefully it’ll happen as well
