Spotify name issue
Hey everyone, I have one more for you. The name my bandmate and I settled for is Overtown. There is another guy on Spotify with that name and the blue check mark. He makes techno and has no monthly listeners and it seems like a pretty amateur vibe (no disrespect to him, you go Dmitriy!) I don’t have anything released yet and barely anything on socials so if changing names is the move I would have to do it now. What do you guys think? Should I power through or change while it’s not a hassle? Isn’t there always going to be someone with the same name? 🤟

Hey Zach! Piggybacking off of Ian's point. I had a band that had a similar issue. Spotify will support and uplift the SEO of relevant and more recent releases. Just by releasing consistently, claiming your account, updating assets like your bio, cover pages, etc, you will end up as the top search for that name quickly. One thing to keep in mind is that you may encounter some hassle with releases being tagged as the wrong band/group especially on Apple music. This is easy to fix by contacting their customer service, but it can feel like a momentum killer. At the end of the day the most important thing is feeling happy with the name, and everything else will be fixed by being consistent, and making the name recognizable. I would say to keep the name and power through, just be sure to stay on top of releases being under the right artist profiles.
Hashtags for posting
Hey everyone, I might have missed this but is there anything covering hashtags for socials in the social media module? No clue what to do with this one.

Tracks from Lorenzo Landini, Sarah Morgan, and Danny Aro are all doing great!
Interesting Opinion piece I read today on Spotify. Do we agree or disagree?
We spend all day thinking about Spotify from an artist perspective, fun to think about it from a fan perspective as well! I personally have to admit that I use Apple Music for a lot of my personal listening because of the reasons he mentioned. https://www.newyorker.com/culture/infinite-scroll/why-i-finally-quit-spotify

Theres a lot of Spotify backlash lately, especially with Ek basically saying they are prioritizing profit and not artistry with the 1k stream payout minimums and more. I stay on Spotify because it has a massive market share, but I am worried about the direction.

Yes, you have the choice to just release from this point on with a different distributor, or switch your catalog over entirely. I suggest starting with the paid tier of one of the suggested ones, and leaving your catalog as is until you build a relationship with them. You will be collecting royalties from 2 platforms, but that is more or less automated
