Stepping into the week...
Big win to kick off the week - 12 miles (+29,000 steps) walking from Gloucester to Cheltenham this morning to visit parents. Route measured 11.6 miles, so I went back out a little later to top it up to just over 12. That’s the longest walk I’ve done in a very long while, and it’s all part of my prep for the Malvern marathon-distance walk coming up in five to six weeks. Short training walks... Over the past week, I’ve also managed a few shorter evening walks of 6 and 8 miles here and there.... But the real EYE-OPENER came when I got a new tracker watch last week and saw just how little I actually move while working from home. I've WFH for past 5 years (coiniding with huge weight gain).... it's super scary to see pretty much zero movement during daytime and evening work sessions when I'm just sat at my desk for hours.... No surprise, but seeing it visualised really brought it home. That was just one day multiplied by hundreds over the years! So why the spikes that day?... I’ve started walking the school drop-off and pick-up routes more often, and I’ve discovered some decent field paths between Innsworth and Longford - about 20–25 minutes each way (it all adds up). It’s a great excuse to stretch the legs while the sun’s still out - jinxed it as it's now pouring with rain - and it’s been good for the kids to walk too... I think they’ve really enjoyed it. Next investment? Decent footwear. A must-have for the distance ahead. I'll be sore tomorrow, no doubt, so it’s stretches later tonight and an upper body gym session lined up early this week to keep things balanced. Hope everyone’s had a good weekend - how’s your training going? Any news or other wins to report? Cheers, Simon
