Watching our public foot print
Ok it is that time of year again, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. One of the biggest Social engineering tools is monitoring what people discard. Criminals of all colours look at the boxes you put out for collection. To the break and enter type criminals that 85" smart tv box says we just spent some big money. to the cyber criminal the box says tech and potential network weak spot. You can't keep all prying eye from seeing your new found toys but you can reduce the numbers. Load the boxes up and take them direct to the recycling centers. If you can store them wait till what the security experts call off peak shopping times. Basically not the holiday season as criminals scour neighborhoods watching the garbage for high value targets. if none of the above is available to you then put them out at the last possible moment. with the popularity of smart devices no longer is your home the target but your network is as attackers look for a wedge to access your network. Hope everyone has a great holidays and remember to be aware.

Plaid
My friend text me this text she got on her phone - it is from a company called Plaid. She had no idea what it was - so I did a little research and found out that it is a service that connects your financial accounts to — and shares their information with — an app, website or service. She freaked out and said she does non of her banking on her phone what so ever and deleted. Does anyone else see other potential issues with this?

@Richard Bankert Good points Richard. She did delete it immediately.
What's one thing you did today to keep yourself safe?
I'll start 😊 Today I let a suspicious call go to voicemail. I used to always answer my phone. Now, I am trying to get in the habit of letting it ring.

There is a shark in the water...^...
One problem with constantly focusing on security issues is that we become a negative voice. Every post is, "watch out for this", "these people are coming after you". I recently spoke with another podcast host who has the same problem. We decided that some, maybe not all, of the topics can be covered with a focus on hope or self-improvement vs. "the sky is falling". The other problem is that doom-and-gloom content gets more views. I would rather provide you with hope and a lifeboat than a finger pointing at a shark. What do you think?

This is so important. One of my taglines I have used is "the birth of awareness, brings new responsibilities." When a lot of the security issues are due to our own demise, human error, giving hope is a wonderful refreshment.
