Why 99% of beginner copywriters fail (and the 3 skills you actually need)
Workshop Recordings are here now with detailed notes: https://www.skool.com/copywriting-launchpad/classroom/f983299b?md=a19fdf8b4590464b9b03eadf95942ace Most beginner copywriters spend thousands on courses, learn features and benefits, and still have no idea how to approach a real client project. This is half of Day 1 from the Copywriting Fundamentals Workshop, A live 5-day training taught by @Matthew Volkwyn and I. In this session, Matthew breaks down the only 3 types of copy you need to understand to write anything: 1️⃣ Idea Copy — How to grab the attention of the right person (not just any person). The hook is not about being clever. It is about being relevant, beneficial, and curious-making to the specific buyer. 2️⃣ Conversion Copy — How to shift a prospect's perspective so they are ready to buy before you ever pitch them. Most copywriters skip this entirely and go straight to the offer. That is why their copy does not convert. 3️⃣ Sales Copy — How to reduce risk, handle skepticism, and prompt action. This is the part AI produces easily — which means it is the least valuable skill to develop first. Matthew also walks through a live email teardown, demonstrates the Bruce Lee principle applied to copywriting, and shows you exactly what happens when you remove conversion copy from a pitch. Days 2–4 go deep into each of the three fundamental types of copy with more examples. Day 5 is a practical session where Matthew gives you a way to drill these fundamentals until they become muscle memory. Copywriting is not a shortcut. It is a learnable skill that rewards repetition, feedback, and honest practice. Copywriting Launchpad is where you do that work alongside other people on the same path. To get access to the full recording of Day 1, plus Days 2 through 5 of the Copywriting Fundamentals Workshop, join Copywriting Launchpad and upgrade to a Premium membership.

Thank you Sir for providing the video of Day 1. It is good for me to watch it once again to better understand things in depth. I am still trying to manage and subscribe for Day 2 to 5.
Looking for Honest Copy Critique
Hi everyone, I wrote this Etsy product description for a client's colouring book and would really appreciate your feedback. Please let me know what works, what doesn't, and how you think I could improve it to increase conversions. Here's the link: https://tinyurl.com/Etsy-colour-Book Thanks so much for your time. I really value your insights.

@Talha Ashraf Khawaja Thank you so much Talha for your honest feedback. I will definitely consider these points and redraft the description and will share with you for your final advice. By the way, 3 books have been sold from this store shop so far.

@Talha Ashraf Khawaja Are you working with clients? I am in search of Junior roles but I don't see it on X and Upwork. All the roles are in demand with high experience and proven track record. I, sometimes apply to those roles but I don't get any response.
Looking for Advice: Landing My First International Client
Hi everyone, I've recently started applying for Creative Strategist and Direct Response Copywriting roles on X and Upwork. One thing I've noticed is that many companies want proof of winning paid ads, revenue generated, ROAS, and real client results. As someone trying to land my first international client, this feels like the biggest hurdle. I do have a portfolio with case studies from local clients and sample Facebook ads I've written for health supplement and other brands, but I'm wondering what actually helps bridge this gap. For those who've already landed their first international client, what made the difference? How did you position yourself when you didn't yet have big DTC success stories to show? I'd really appreciate your advice. Thanks!

@Ismaeel Khalil Than you Ismaeel for your kind advice. I am searching for Junior roles but those I don't see Junior roles on X and UpWork. Where can I find those? Please suggest me.
One Copy Type Is Never Enough.
Today's lesson completely changed how I look at copywriting. It cleared many misconceptions I had and helped me understand that great copywriting is much more than writing emails or any single type of copy. One of my biggest takeaways is that every type of copy has a different role in helping a business grow. Ads bring traffic, landing pages guide visitors toward one action, sales pages convert buyers, VSLs turn viewers into customers, website copy builds trust, and video scripts help businesses grow and monetize their audience. Each piece works together as part of the same growth system. I also realized that limiting myself to one type of copy would limit the value I can bring to clients. The more I understand and learn different types of copy, the better I can help businesses at different stages of their marketing and sales journey, making me a more valuable and reliable partner. My goal now is to build a strong foundation across all the major types of copy so I can help businesses solve a wider range of problems instead of just delivering one type of service. That's the kind of copywriter I'm working to become.

Yes, exactly. The more I learn, the more I realise that writing is only one part of the job. Understanding why a piece of copy exists and what it needs to achieve before writing it changes the whole approach. That's the mindset I'm trying to build.

Hey Keith, Love the transparency. It's refreshing to see the real numbers, not just the wins. I'm new to this community, with a background in strategic communication and proposal writing, and now transitioning into direct response copywriting. Looking forward to learning from your journey and hopefully reaching the point where I can start sharing daily progress like this too. Wishing you a strong finish to the challenge!
