One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that when training is completely free, there’s usually very little accountability. Players and parents tend to value it more when they’ve invested something into it, even if it’s just a small amount. You don’t have to charge a lot when you’re starting out, but I do think it’s important to charge something. I’ve also found that running a free clinic every now and then is a great way to introduce people to your coaching without giving away all of your time for free. On a personal level, I noticed that when I trained players for free, I wasn’t always as invested as I should have been. It’s hard to give your best energy when you’re constantly sacrificing your time with no commitment on the other side. Once there was some level of investment from both sides, the experience was better for everyone involved. 👍🏾
