There’s a point where doing it yourself stops being the cheaper option 🫵
By the time many business owners decide they need help, they’ve already been carrying too much for months. There’s always something more urgent. Another client to deal with. Another task that needs attention. Another week where they tell themselves they’ll sort it out later. Then things get busy enough that support becomes an emergency. That’s when decisions tend to get rushed. You don’t have much time to think about what should actually be handed off, what kind of support you need, or how the work should be structured. And when the goal is simply to get something off your plate as quickly as possible, it’s easy to move the work without really removing the responsibility. I’ve found that the better time to think about support is before you desperately need it. When things are busy but still manageable. When you can clearly see which recurring tasks are taking up your time. When you have enough breathing room to document the work, set expectations, and give someone a proper handoff. You don’t need to wait for the business to become chaotic before deciding what shouldn’t stay on your plate. Sometimes the best time to build support is when you can still do it thoughtfully. If you’re starting to notice that certain tasks are taking more of your time than they should, feel free to share what’s piling up. It might be worth looking at what can be taken off your plate. 🙂🚀

@J Robert Lamontagne Absolutely. I think the real shift is realizing that delegation doesn’t mean giving up control. It means creating enough clarity around the outcome, expectations, and boundaries that someone else can own the work without everything coming back to you.

@Adam Finch Exactly. Time saved is time you can put back into the parts of the business that actually matter or simply have more meaningful time outside of work. I think both are a win. 🙂
Silence is expensive…
How many times have you seen a small issue on a project turn into a BIG problem just because nobody wanted to bring it up? After 2 decades in the industry, I have continually observed one thing that has remained true: Silence is Expensive. Every day you avoid the conversation, the cost compounds… delays, rework, lost time, and wasted money. The best leaders don’t dodge tough conversations. They face them head-on, keep projects moving, and protect everyone’s bottom line. What’s the most costly “silence” you’ve seen on a project?

This is so true @Adam Finch. I think ownership is really one of the clearest signs of good leadership. Not just being willing to address problems, but creating a team where people feel responsible for bringing things up and taking action before they become bigger issues. The best leaders I’ve seen aren’t the ones who solve every problem themselves. They create enough clarity and ownership that problems get handled before they ever make it back to the top. 🙂
You Don’t Have to Do It All 🏗️
Something I’ve noticed after working with business owners across different industries is that the ones who eventually build something sustainable usually have one thing in common: They genuinely care about what they’re building. They care about their customers. They care about their reputation. They care about their team. And they care about getting the business right. But caring about the business doesn’t mean you should be the person handling every follow-up, admin task, customer message, or operational detail. That’s where a lot of good businesses get stuck. The owner becomes the person everyone depends on, even when systems and automation are already in place. I’ve always believed the right support isn’t about finding someone to simply “do tasks.” It’s about finding someone who can take ownership of the work and treat the business with the same level of care. Whether you’re building an eCom brand, growing a service business, or using AI to scale your operations, that human execution layer still matters. Systems create leverage. The right people make that leverage actually work. 💯

@Constantin C. And I can definitely relate to that. I still have to remind myself sometimes that I don’t need to be involved in everything just to make sure it gets done right. 😅 What kind of startup are you building or built?

@Constantin C. Wow! That’s a pretty solid track record, especially getting two ventures to $2.5K MRR in just a few months. My background is mainly on the people and operations side. I run a VA placement/agency where we help growing businesses take recurring execution off the founder’s plate. Especially the work that starts piling up as things gain traction. The ads agency caught my attention though. I’ve worked with quite a few businesses around that side of operations, so there could be some interesting overlap there. 🙂
Hey everyone, Jem here! 👋
I run a VA placement agency, helping business owners find reliable talent and take recurring operational work off their plate so they can focus on growth. I joined this group mainly to connect with people in construction, real estate, investing, and other service businesses, learn from what others are building, and hopefully find ways to contribute where I can. Always happy to connect, share ideas, and see where good relationships lead. Looking forward to getting to know everyone here! 🙂

👋 Welcome to the Be A Pro Network
People shouldn't have to build success alone. Every successful person talks about being in the right room or having the right people around them. The reality is... Not everyone gets invited to those rooms. So instead of waiting for a seat at someone else's table... We built our own! A place where contractors, tradespeople, business owners, real estate investors, suppliers, and industry professionals can connect, collaborate, learn from each other, and create better opportunities together. Whether you're here to: - Grow your business - Build your network - Learn from experienced professionals - Find better opportunities - Or simply surround yourself with positive people who want to become better... You're in the right place. Our mission is simple: Where Collaboration Creates Opportunity. This community will become whatever we build together. Welcome to the table.
