I was fortunate enough to be able to hear a Candombe band from Montevideo, Uruguay. They had 3 drum players and a keyboardist. The lead vocalist sang in their mother tongue which is Spanish with and Italian flair. Needless to say when they started playing, I could not sit still! I was dancing in my chair and then I couldn't do that anymore, I had to be up on the floor dancing. Mind you, the room was so tiny and crowded, I had a space about 2ft by 3ft where I wouldn't be blocking the veiw of anyone recording their performance. So I squeazed myself into that little floor space, and started dancing at which the lead vocalist started dancing with me! Soon others in the audience came forward and started dancing! Oh it was wonderful to feel Spirit move through my body, and to be moved by the Spirit of the drums. I've noticed at other live music events in my tiny town, the people are so shy, sometimes I wonder what they might be thinking, "this crazy girl always showing up to these events, and having to be getting all dancy in front of everyone!" Oh, when I hear that criticizing voice, which sounds like my mom incidentally, I shrug it off, and dance with more expression and enthusiasm. More often than not, at the end, my little town people thank me for adding the extra entertainment and energy to the occasion. Honestly, I thank Spirit for taking over my entire self and moving me to the beat of the Candombe drums.
