A Little Quiet Over Here
What's up, Biscuit Head community! So I know we've been a touch quiet lately but it's only because we have some big news coming. The entire portal is about to get a massive facelift and an incredibly thorough new classroom will be available in the new year. Thank you for being an early adopter and I can't wait to show you what's being built. Best, Ian Kimmel
James Blake is at it again!
Calling out the music industry and making some really great points and shedding light to the rest of the world on big tech algorithms, data collection, and touring challenges. Members of my focus groups will recognize some familiar points on the importance of EMAIL LISTS and owning your fans. What do we think?? Also what's your favorite James Blake song? I'm loving "Woo" from his new Yachty collab album, but its hard to beat the classics like Retrograde

Love that his approach is super similar to smaller independent artists. I feel like it values the fan way more, even if he does have a billion streams

Also, I’m in your boat. I’m still a bigger fan of the older material but he doesn’t miss with any new tracks.
Spotify name issue
Hey everyone, I have one more for you. The name my bandmate and I settled for is Overtown. There is another guy on Spotify with that name and the blue check mark. He makes techno and has no monthly listeners and it seems like a pretty amateur vibe (no disrespect to him, you go Dmitriy!) I don’t have anything released yet and barely anything on socials so if changing names is the move I would have to do it now. What do you guys think? Should I power through or change while it’s not a hassle? Isn’t there always going to be someone with the same name? 🤟

Hey Zach! For sure, multiple artists can have the same name on Spotify. I'm seeing two with Overtown as the name. They're both rather small though so you should be able to get the top SSO (Spotify Search Optimization, not a real term) spot without a problem. All good there. The only thing to consider is actually SEO which is looking okay but not great. There's a neighborhood in Miami with the same name. Personally, if I liked the name and I'd rather not go through the hassle, just stick with it. It's obviously easy to change names at this point but will become much more difficult after the first song is released. Your call, but I would stick with it. You'll be able to get the spotify blue check once you make a Spotify For Artists account.
