Crystal Spotlight: Plum Tourmaline
Plum Tourmaline carries this deep, rich energy that feels grounded in the body but still very connected to the emotional heart. There’s a warmth to it… like something that’s been through a lot but has softened instead of hardened. It tends to show up when we’re working through deeper emotional layers, especially the ones tied to identity, self-worth, and how we relate to love over time. It feels steady. Supportive. Like it’s sitting with you while things unravel and re-form in a healthier way. Physical Overview Plum Tourmaline falls within the Tourmaline family, often closely related to varieties like Rubellite. Its color ranges from deep rose and magenta to darker, almost wine-like purple tones. - Composition: Complex boron silicate - Hardness: 7 – 7.5 - Luster: Vitreous - Color: Plum, deep pink, reddish-purple - Common Localities: Brazil, Afghanistan, Mozambique, Nigeria It typically forms in long, striated prismatic crystals, though many pieces are found tumbled or cut for jewelry. Higher grade crystals are often used in jewelry, while those that are not as translucent are used more for their energetic properties. Energetic & Metaphysical Qualities Plum Tourmaline works in that space where emotional healing meets personal strength. It doesn’t rush anything. It helps us stay present with what’s coming up and process it without shutting down or pushing it away. There’s a strong connection to the heart, but not just the light, open parts. This one goes deeper into the places where we’ve held onto hurt, patterns, or protective walls. It supports: - Emotional processing without overwhelm - Rebuilding self-trust after difficult experiences - Softening guarded or closed-off energy - Strengthening the ability to give and receive love in a balanced way There’s also a subtle grounding aspect to it. Even though it works with the heart, it keeps you anchored in your body so the work feels stable and manageable. Color Variations & Their Focus Lighter plum tones tend to feel more heart-opening and gentle, almost like easing into emotional awareness.

Plumb is such a great color. What makes tourmaline "tourmaline" ??? How is it different from quartz for example?

@Robin Lewis Ooooo you may turn me into a rock nerd yet. I know I can just chatGPT this, but it just lands and sticks when you interact educationally with someone who actually has a passion for it. So Ok Tourmaline -> boron, stretched out columns Quartz -> silicon dioxide, six-sided

Oh that is nice. I like that crystal period!

ANWER REVEALED BELOW IN THE COMMENTS ---------------------------------------- Here's a new one for ya. Crystal look-a likes. How many different materials are there in this picture? (And I don't mean individual minerals in each one. I'm looking for their industry standard names. Hint: Yooperlite, Larvekite, etc.)

@Robin Lewis I'm still confused. Are you saying these are "fabricated" stones made by someone in some way? Or are you just saying that people like to say oh this is shungite for example when it's really a mix of natural stone or crystal?

@Robin Lewis OH!! ok I see what you're doing, they all look very similar so do you really know your stones or not? ha. I guessed.
Crystal Spotlight - Prehnite
Prehnite has a really gentle way of working with us. It feels like that quiet moment when everything settles just enough for you to actually hear yourself again. It's that steady inner voice that’s been there the whole time. Prehnite brings us back into trust. It's a calm sense of knowing that starts to rise when the nervous system relaxes a bit and the body feels safe enough to really listen. There’s also a dreamlike quality to it. Prehnite tends to show up when we’re learning to pay attention to subtle signals — intuition, dreams, gut feelings, those quiet nudges we might normally brush off. Physical Properties Prehnite is a calcium aluminum silicate mineral that typically forms in soft, rounded, botryoidal (bubble-like) masses or in gently curved crystal formations. Color ranges from pale yellow-green to deeper mossy green, often with a slightly translucent, almost glowing quality. Some pieces contain dark needle-like inclusions of Epidote, which add contrast and depth. It forms in volcanic rock cavities through hydrothermal processes, often alongside minerals like Zeolites. - Hardness: 6 – 6.5 - Luster: Vitreous to pearly - Common Locations: South Africa, Australia, China, Scotland, United States Physically, it carries that “soft but structured” feeling — not fragile, but not dense or heavy either. Energetic & Metaphysical Qualities Prehnite works closely with the heart and the intuitive centers at the same time, which makes it a really interesting bridge stone. It doesn’t just open the heart emotionally, it helps us feel safe enough to trust what’s coming through. This can show up as: - A sense of inner calm or emotional settling - Clearer intuitive nudges or inner guidance - Less second-guessing - A softer relationship with our own thoughts and feelings There’s also a strong connection to the nervous system here. Prehnite has a way of smoothing out that “on edge” feeling, especially when the mind has been running a little too fast or jumping between too many things.

Yes definitely a beautiful one and it's always interesting to hear how these form.
