Update to G major course in Classroom
Big thanks to @Larry Marchant for letting me know that several chords were missing from this course. I’m happy to say I’ve added the missing chords! Keep those fingers flying!

Playing tunes to remember chords
Yesterday I learned a lesson. Couldn’t remember chords in key of A. So now I am learning a song in A. Playing a tune. Enjoying the chords. High hopes! Just a thought!

New courses in the Classroom
If you've ever struggled trying to work out chord diagrams or where to put your fingers you need to head over to the Classroom page and start working through the mini courses that are there. I've grouped them according to keys. Why? If you're learning a song in the key of C, most of the chords in that song will be from the key of C. Here are all of the diatonic chords in C: C Dm Em F G Am Bdim So, if you can learn all of these you'll probably be able to play 99% of songs in that key using just those chords in various progressions (don't worry too much about Bdim). Progressions are just chords played in a particular order. Some of the courses are locked until you reach level 2 & 3. How do you reach level 2 and 3? Post and interact with others e.g., post videos or pics of what you're doing AND like and comment on what others are doing. Let your fingers fly! Pro Memorisation Tip!!! Say the chord name as you play it...trust me it works.

Reminded why I need this. Going through Scottish song book. Came across tune in A Major. Didn’t have the chords in my fingers, just in my head! Doing this ‘chords by key’ practice until each key is flying off my fingers!!! Thanks for this key lesson!

Kia ora everyone! I've been playing guitar since I was 13 years old. I'd always loved music and singing but I never really thought about learning to play an instrument until my friend Andrew Little (we're still mates) asked me to go to guitar lessons with him. I tagged along because I liked him and thought it could be cool. My first lesson with my teacher Peter Thwaites (we keep in touch even now) was a disaster as far as I was concerned because I couldn't even get my fingers to go on the fretboard properly! I had to use my right hand to put my left hand fingers in the right position to play a D chord for Yellow Submarine. My dad found out I was having lessons and told me to ask my teacher to teach me classical. I asked Peter if he could teach me classical and he said yes. So, I started learning all kinds of guitar styles and classical guitar as well. Fast forward three years and Peter and I both sat our Grade 7 Trinity College of London guitar exams at the same time. I ended up attending Victoria university in Wellington where I studied with William Bower. A couple of years afterwards I gained my LTCL with Distinction in Classical Guitar Performance. I first started teaching when I was 17 and still attending high school. I guess I've been teaching guitar ever since then. I taught at several colleges across the Bay of Plenty in New Zealand, and I also taught for a few months in Dubai at an international school during a five-month residency gig I had there. My first foray into online teaching began in 2016 when I was living and touring in China. I started the NBN Guitar YouTube channel to help people that couldn't access a classical guitar teacher in their area. Now, I've started this Skool community to help people that are at or near the beginning stages of playing guitar. I love virtually all styles of guitar, but my main areas of expertise and joy are: - Classical - Metal - Rock - Arrangements I've got three sons, and my wife is from South Korea. She's also a very fine musician and we toured the world together as a duo for many years before settling down in New Zealand to have kids.

@Joshua Rogers I keep reading this message from you about getting the basics right…and the rest will follow. Your NBN Guitar and this GCC work gives me inspiration! Prepare, guide, pivot. Repeat! Again!

@Joshua Rogers So very well said. Wanting more from it, and giving much to it, has been a wonderful adventure. Time always adds new limits. Yet, beautiful guitar pieces are ever there to be brought to life. Your transcription and performance of Pachabell’s Cannon in D Major on NBN Guitar inspires. The basics of prepare, guide, pivot apply perfectly…and don’t press hard. Your sharing is more valuable than can be measured. (I never compliment, but do state what is true). Thank you.
My guitar doesn’t like me…
Does your guitar ever look at you like this after you’ve tried to play it? To avoid this reproachful glance try some or all of these techniques: Preparation (hovering fingers above where they’re needed for the next chord) Guiding (keeping a finger on the same string when moving to the next chord) Pivoting (keeping a finger in the same location as others move around it when changing chords) Do you know all three of these?

@Joshua Rogers Joshua - This is good for my ‘old’ hand tendons. With the Am to E practice, I have tried moving my fingers, putting them in place, and the just very lightly pressing. Sometimes I don’t pluck or strum. I just move at a natural attentive pace from one chord to the other. At this point, the motor control is improved without over using my tendons. Thanks again. Larry

Enjoy folk, classical, classic, and pop. Play nylon string guitar because easier on my fingers. Enjoy NBN method. Lifetime adventure!
