Deep-dive into finding the key of a song with me
Hey everybody! I'm starting to feel like I'm on the mend 🤞 So I figured I'd dive deeper into my process of finding the key of a song using my ʻukulele AND the Key Seeker 64 game I shared with you earlier today! Check it out here in the Classroom if you want. #Ear Training Deep-Dive on Key Seeker 64 Here are the basic steps to follow: 1) Listen to the whole song. Determine if it sounds Major or minor to you. This may change. a) Select Major or minor in the game. 2) Listen again. Try to hum the bass notes you hear. Try to find the one that feels like the "home" note/chord. 3) Once you locked in on the hummed bass note, try to find it on your instrument. Use your C chromatic scale until you find the right note. 4) Select that note on the piano/keyboard in the game. a)Determine if you were right or want to change your major/minor choice from the beginning. 5) Hit "Check" and see if you're right!

🏆 Win Wednesday: Ear Training Hack 🎧
I found an online ear-training game called Key Seeker 64 that helps you find the key of a song. Find it here: https://sonofield.com/apps/key-seeker Here's a quick video demo — your Win Wednesday mission is just: try it once (even for 2 minutes). Find it in the ʻUkulele Toolkit here. #Ear Training - Key Seeker 64 📊 Poll: What are you doing with it?

@Kāʻili Wells Jr. I've been experimenting with it the last couple of days with limited success. Feels like I don't fully understand what I'm listening for. Will have a watch of your video after work to see if it helps.. 🤞🏽
Welcome Maria! let’s make “beginner” feel easy 😎

@Kāʻili Wells Jr. I bet *That London* has got everything you could ever want - well stocked music shops are increasingly rare out here in the sticks. I bought my cheap-but-useable one (as opposed to the utterly dreadful Martin Smith ones that clutter the beginners end of the market - my son had one for primary school 🤮) that I keep in the car for twenty five quid from Facebook marketplace, and then treated myself to an Islander electro-acoustic 2nd hand from ebay for ~£100 when I was sure I'd carry on. Southern Ukulele store in Bournemouth have a great range of video reviews and I'm hoping to pop in for a mooch when I visit friends in the New Forest at the end of the month. https://www.southernukulelestore.co.uk/ Have you any experience of those carbon fibre Enya ukuleles Ka'ili? They sound pretty bombproof and their budget version crops up for £50ish over here if you shop around..

I train Kali/Filipino martial arts. It's not really a fitness thing so I'm not clicking that option, more a set bit of Me time during the week when I can hang out with other adults - something about the weapons element seems to attract more nerdy types so I fit right in 🙂 Really need to get back into it, but life's been so hectic this last year that my attendance has been really patchy. Ka'ili - I noticed you mentioning ju jitsu in a video recently - that stuff blows my mind! A friend and I used to hire an aikido dojo and cross train between his bjj, my kali and his friend's Thai boxing. I've never been choked out so often and so quickly 😭 (that's me when starting out - being monstered by one of our coaches)

@Kāʻili Wells Jr. Definitely, I've kept paying my monthly subs despite not going, that keeps the link alive. Otherwise I'd probly never make it back. I started just after covid - my first few lessons were in the local park as we couldn't train indoors. It's a fun martial art, the sensitivity drills (hubud) are awesome for the Art part of it. It's just a shame that since we train in a community centre sports-hall the floor is too hard for throws and ground work.

Mostly listening to machinery right now (work 😕) *but* when having musical chats with my youngest who's very into drumming at the mo, he criticises the music I listen to for having boring drums. I've been biting my tongue not to do the "that's the point of punk, you don't have to be a musician to do it" - as I get his point, must be quite boring after a bit - and instead trying to find examples of simple musicianship serving the song. Mainly because I dont fancy having to listen to prog-rock in the car 😂 Anyhow, I discovered Ecca Vandal recently and have been using this song to demonstrate Simple=Effective. It's a real earworm - enjoy https://youtu.be/chJu5t4GRA8?si=e8QVHSpe1cwa4Ojk

@Kāʻili Wells Jr. I was Very late to discover the Fargo series, but when I binged it last year i was really impressed with burn notice guy playing a character completely at odds with his cia-smartarse character. I would never have expected him to have range!
