@Owen Palmer Residual effect on the start of the note because of LP filters? Never mentioned it! Allpass filters? - Yes, but it is desirable effect.

@Owen Palmer the train of thought of the first part is really great too. It logicaly leads to the middle part
The process of track creation. Mixing after or during?
Hello guys. I need your opinion on how to distribute your time and efforts during the process of creating a track from scratch. I found myself in a methodological trap trying to mix during production and writing. I always do everything in parallel, however I'm in a doubt because it has some cons that I really feel. So I think if you try to mix or engineer the sound BEFORE you have completed the musical ideas you risk to spend much more time and even get very tired of the track you are working on. And I've got tired of a couple of latest tracks trying to make them sound as perfect as possible.

@Rich Rath taking notes is a simple but great idea, really helping to stay "anchored"

SIDECHAINING IS REAL !!! 👂👂
Let me explain 🤓 One of the complaints I often hear about using sidechain compression style techniques is that "it's unnatural"... or words to that effect (as if that even matters, but okay...). 🙄 But I've long said that, in reality, our hearing system is quirky, and *does do* something akin to a sidechain compression effect under certain circumstances... 🗜 For example, when someone speaks to you in a noisy environment, the ambient noise *can* seem to lower in volume as compared to the voice you're focused on. There's no doubt a psychological element to this (what we focus on inevitably affects our perception), BUT I've always suspected a physiological element to it... 🧠 ANYWAY, today I've experienced the perfect example. I'm working on a mixdown of a track with a big sub bass playing a sort of stabby off-beat pattern... 👍 But it's hot in here. I switched on the air con and the machine got quite loud for a moment... 🤔 When I solo'd the off-beat sub bass in my earphones, I noticed the sound of the air conditioner pumping rhythmically in time with the music. I'd never noticed that effect so clearly before. 🤯 It's REALLY stark, like someone put ShaperBox on the AC, triggered by the sub. 😏 I KNEW it. So sidechain compression-style effects DO mimic natural psychoacoustic phenomena. 😎

There is a kind of compression happening in the ears. I've also noticed it a lot. Especially listening to resonant vocals
