@Chaz Horn you still awake from Friday? ๐Ÿ˜‚
Sri Lanka Dispatch
Hi friends, Just sharing an update from recent travels in Sri Lanka and my hometown, Colombo. I was there for a contemporary art festival (www.colomboscope.lk), where I exhibited my work. I was also invited to take part in a group exhibition at a local gallery. Both were well received, and the festival was a major networking event. But it went much further, deepening connections and friendships locally and regionally. One of the Super Whos I was meant to reach out to as part of Q4โ€™s 10-Week Challenge is now my friend. While Iโ€™m still starstruck, I think weโ€™re both benefiting from the relationship, which is pretty cool. This is her website; sheโ€™s an artist: https://sehershah.net/ During the festival, I also decided to host a charity art sale to support Cyclone Ditwah relief. For those of you interested in art market pricing, Iโ€™ve attached a pdf with a price list from my time working with a gallery in Colombo. Happy to chat further about it and share more, as itโ€™s likely unfamiliar territory. I managed to raise $3,748.55 from seven artworks over five days. The sale was 50% off, and all proceeds went to charity. It was a good sale and an interesting test to see which collectors were willing to purchase. One of the main takeaways is that Iโ€™m ready to take on a more empowered leadership role to build a robust and resilient arts infrastructure in Sri Lanka. This would involve reaching out to friends and their families who run business empires there and asking them to contribute towards this larger goal. I will also be approaching my family (we have a family business there, too). Iโ€™m well placed to be in this position as an art advisor because people know and trust me personally and professionally. Thatโ€™s the hometown network. Another identity shift is that I feel ready to pursue academic study at a university again. Itโ€™s been 12 years since I graduated from college, and I never felt ready. But now many things have fallen into place, which is quite exciting.

Thanks for sharing this, Kavan. I know youโ€™ve been on the grind last couple of months and ready for a well deserved vacation.
Reflection โ€“ Unmasking False Identity
I started this week with a lot of drive and intensity. Then today, the CEO asked me to work on something that required effort, but didnโ€™t feel like it would move the needle in a meaningful way. Thatโ€™s when I noticed my false identity showed up: โ€œJust work harder. Put in the hours. Be useful.โ€ But underneath that was a deeper truth. I donโ€™t actually thrive on activity. I thrive on meaning. On work that creates leverage, direction, and real impact. Today felt uncomfortable because my old identity wanted to stay loyal to busyness, while my real identity was asking a different question: "Does this actually make a difference?" That tension was the signal. Curious where others are noticing this gap between activity and impact this week.

@Dwayne Van Harberden I think I like the โ€œdoneโ€ list. A little different from crossing off items.

Itโ€™s not what we donโ€™t know that hurts us, itโ€™s what we know for sure that just ainโ€™t so. Mark Twain How many of us are so โ€œmatter of factโ€ in certain areas of our lives and is hurting us. Does it have anything to do with our IDENTITY?

@Barbara St Jean answered my last question on this post. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ I think weโ€™re all taught at a young age that multi-tasking is possible. Itโ€™s definitely not and switch-tasking requires a lot of energy. And Iโ€™m an expert at draining myself. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Time blocks are helping me. Creating times for things to be completed weekly. Like my YT video needs to be filmed no later than Sat morning if Iโ€™m going to do one a week.

Naming My Identity
Youโ€™ll see this phrase on my LinkedIn this week: โ€œIdentity isnโ€™t something I create โ€” itโ€™s something I return to.โ€ Hereโ€™s what Iโ€™ll add just for you. Iโ€™ve learned that identity shows up most clearly under pressure โ€” when weโ€™re forced to choose, speak honestly, or act with courage rather than comfort. Last year, while leading a year-long Bible reading group, I watched commitment reveal itself quickly.Courage took longer. It always does. Right now, this is where my own identity feels anchored โ€” exercising courage, not just understanding it. So Iโ€™m curious: When pressure shows up, what do you tend to return to โ€” habit, role, or identity? - Which one takes the most courage for you right now? Drop a thought below. Even naming it counts.

@Barbara St Jean if youโ€™re spending more time in thoughts than actions, thatโ€™s the issue. Itโ€™s like people (my fired head coach in football) say, โ€œKnowledge is Power.โ€ Knowledge isnโ€™t power without actions or next steps.
